The ocean is a lot of discoveries made by accident. We are looking for something then we discovered something else. This is one reason the ocean needs more exploring, according to Robert Ballard. 72% of the planet is water and 50% of the United State's land is underneath the sea. He also explains that the largest mountain range lays under water and this mid ocean range covers a quarter of our planet and we never new until after Buzz Aldrin went to the moon. The Great Riff Valley was explored in 1973-74 for the first time and it was pitch black because photons cannot reach the average depth of the ocean. They found that running along the Riff Valley there was tens of thousands of active volcanoes, there are more active volcanoes below the sea than above it. The explanation of the mountain range underwater is that it's made up of giant chimneys of hot springs. Also Chemo-synthesis is basically photosynthesis in the dark founded by researchers by bacteria in clams. Later on, a discovery was made that volcanoes underwater could release not only lava but methane. These are some reasons exploring our ocean and making discoveries is key to inspire and give knowledge to others to become future engineers or scientists related with the ocean.
